Meet Michael Childress
About Me
I am Michael L. Childress, MBA, MHRM, Vice Chair of the DuPage County Board and the first African American member elected to represent DuPage County. A resident of Bloomingdale for over 40 years, I have dedicated my life to community advocacy and public service. I serve as Chair of the Public Works Committee, where I focus on infrastructure and compliance with EPA and Clean Water Act standards. I also sit on the Finance, Judicial and Public Safety, Economic Development, Legislative, Technology, and Intergovernmental committees.
Previously, I served as a Bloomingdale Park District Commissioner and was the longest-serving President of the DuPage County NAACP. As a certified domestic violence advocate, I serve on the Board of Directors for the Sisters Against Abuse Society and work with Dominion Family Services. Additionally, I am the President of Hope Fair Housing and sit on the DuPage County Historical Museum Board. Throughout my career, I have secured tens of thousands of dollars in grants and hold three bachelor's degrees and two master's degrees.
A Legacy of Helpfulness
I have been a resident of DuPage County for over 40 years. I’ve raised two beautiful daughters in this community and am deeply proud of the women they have become. I have come to know the great people that live in District One- my friends and neighbors- and have heard what they have to say about DuPage and have let their needs be my guide in every vote that I’ve cast as Vice Chair.
My adamant belief, rooted in democratic principles, is that we need to expand the electorate by making it easier to vote. It's very important to me that citizens realize how valuable and important their votes and voices are and I want to do all that I can to encourage everyone to engage in the democratic process, especially at the local level.
MY PLATFORM
Bringing About Helpful Change
Candidates run for office for many different reasons and have agendas that do not include the interest of the people. These locally elected officials are actively working to limit the rights of the people and to prevent the change that those very same people want. If all elections are local then we must codify our rights at the local level. In order to do this we must have:

Greater Stewardship when spending taxpayer dollars

Strong relationships with local labor unions to create jobs and opportunities

Expand the Electorate (Preregistration for High School Juniors and Seniors)

Inclusive hiring practices at the municipal levels across the district

A true and accurate teaching of the History of our Country

Partnership with local businesses to create youth programs

Improved Mental Healthcare Services throughout the community

Community policing partnerships

Fair treatment of our immigrant communities and pathways to citizenship

A strong will to fight for all of the State and Federal grants to which DuPage County is entitled
